The NextGen Home Experience® is coming to Las Vegas, NV, in January with two new demonstration and showcase homes that look into the near future with ideas and products homeowners want.
Built on the themes of Strong, Green, Efficient and Digital, the homes are produced by iShow with major support by Somfy Systems Inc. and Budget Blinds for two of the nation’s largest trade shows. The first home, known as the Cottage Home, will be presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January 8 to 11. The second home, called the Urban Living Home, will be built for the International Builders’ Show (IBS) January 20 to 23. In both cases, tens of thousands of visitors will see firsthand what the future has in store.
Imagine homes that feature both green and sustainable building products; require low energy to run; feature disaster resistant construction to withstand earthquakes, storms, fire and other events; and come complete with an array of the latest in lifestyle products including light control at the windows. These homes have it.
For the first time, a NextGen Home will be built inside the CES South Hall. Referred to as the Cottage Home, this home most often is sold to owners that want to place it in a park-like setting with minimal environmental impact. The idea is that once a foundation is prepared, the Cottage Home can be brought in and placed without disturbing the area with a construction phase.
The Cottage Home also is attractive to resort owners who want a series of rental units that offer options and solutions with low impact.
The Cottage Home is built by Silvercrest Homes, Corona, CA.
The NextGen Urban Living Home will be the only exhibit at this year’s IBS that can show how easily and affordably buyers can get what they want, along with what they didn’t even know they wanted. Built by Genesis Homes by Champion this complete, 2,000-square-foot home will be built in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center especially for the show.
The Urban Living Home is the first zero lot line NextGen Home ever—a nod to the rise of downtown living underway all across the nation. This home is a living showcase of building best practices and the latest must-have features.
Homeowners are looking to go greener and the Urban Living Home offers construction using the latest technologies from a building envelop featuring more than 30 percent recycled material to a non-ozone refrigerant in the HVAC system.
Offering homeowners more energy savings (up to 50 percent) is a spray foam insulation that also controls moisture and improves indoor air quality.
The energy savings don’t stop there. Inside, motorized window shades provided by Budget Blinds incorporate Somfy motors, delivering not only beautiful window coverings but also the ability to adjust the shades automatically throughout the day and slash heating and cooling costs year-round.
SAFE LIVING, TOO
In addition to all of this, the NextGen Urban Living Home will showcase partnerships with industry leaders including the U.S. Department of Energy and the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). In anticipation of nature’s worst, the home will be built using IBHS’ Fortified…for safer living® standard. The result is a home that boasts an efficiency level 95 percent higher than today’s standard homes and is built to provide unprecedented protection against natural disasters of all kinds. And in this home, the owners will be prepared in advance thanks to the NOAA Weather/All Hazards Radio—a sophisticated home emergency alert system.
