KALEIDOSCOPE NAMES SHIREY DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Kaleidoscope Industries, Inc., Howell, MI, recently announced David M. Shirey, CPA, as its director of operations and CFO. Shirey will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company development and implementation of corporate strategies.
Shirey has been with Kaleidoscope Industries for nine years and has been a CPA for more than 25 years.
DIETZ HONORED AS ONE OF SAN DIEGO’S MOST ADMIRED CEOs
The San Diego Business Journal and title sponsor Vistage International Inc. has awarded owner, Scot Dietz, Three Blind Mice Window Coverings, Dan Diego, CA, as an honoree in the city’s First Annual Most Admired CEO presentation.
Twelve CEOs were honored in October at a dinner at the Marriott Hotel and Marina. The awards ceremony hosted guest speakers Ruben Garcia of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Honorable Mayor Jerry Sanders. The Business Journal recognized the CEOs for their accomplishments in their professions, in their careers and in the community.
“I was surprised that I would even be considered for this award. Three Blind Mice is a small sized company and there were some heavy hitters in the mix,” said Dietz.
Three Blind Mice Window Coverings provides window treatments—blinds, shutters, draperies, motorization and window tint—to both private and commercial customers (see D&WC, November 2006, page 28).
WHEELER NEW REP FOR PROVINAIRE WINDOW COVERINGS
Pam Wheeler has been appointed to represent Provinaire Window Fashions by Heritage throughout California and Nevada. She and her sales agency, Wheeler & Associates, have represented Heritage in the area since 1990.
Provinaire Window Coverings were introduced at the 2007 International Window Coverings Expo. The Wheeler firm, based in Irvine, CA, has a Provinaire/Heritage showroom in suite 622 of the LA Gift Mart, 1933 South Broadway in Los Angeles.
ASTRUP PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
The Astrup Co., Cleveland, OH, has announced the February 1 retirement of Jeffrey W. Kirk, president and COO of the newly created distribution division of Glen Raven.
Harry Gobble, general manager of the Glen Raven distribution group, and Al Johnson, business development manager, will assume many of Kirk’s responsibilities to ensure continuity of direction and focus going forward in the current merger of Astrup and John Boyle & Co. with Glen Raven.
“I leave knowing that there are many capable people in the right positions, doing the right things to carry on the business,” Kirk said. “Retirement is bittersweet for me. I will certainly miss everyone, but I’m looking forward to doing new things.” He now plans to pursue other interests.
Kirk, a fourth-generation member of the founding Astrup family, served more than 32 years with the company. He was first hired in 1975 as an account representative in Augusta, GA. He was transferred to Cleveland in 1977 as a buyer and later became purchasing manager. He was named director in 1984, and vice president and secretary one year later.
Kirk became senior vice president and secretary in 1988. He was promoted again in 1998 to executive vice president and secretary. He was named president and secretary in 1999.
In October 2005, Kirk, Industrial Fabrics Manager (IFM), was elected as chairman of the board of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) and finished his term in October 2007 after more than 12 years on the IFAI board. He also was chairman of the United States Industrial Fabrics Institute (USIFI) and served on the Professional Awning Manufacturer’s Association (PAMA) board.
A & D NAMES BOERNER GENERAL MANAGER
Architectural & Decorative Window Fashions LLC, Emeryville, CA, has named Kevin Boerner general manager.
Boerner was raised in the family-owned window coverings retail business and represents its third generation. He started his professional path by gathering knowledge while helping his father. Together they would install a wide variety of window fashions while Kevin was in his teens and throughout college.
After then living five years in Germany and accumulating experience in other retail establishments, Boerner now joins his parents, Hans and Barbara, at A & D Window Fashions. With his cumulative experience of more than 20 years in the window coverings industry his goal is to bring A & D into the 21st century. He has developed a Web site, www.adwindowfashions.com, which will be up and running in spring 2008
PLASTIBEC ADDS RUBIO AS U.S. NORTH EAST SALES MANAGER
Plastibec Inc., Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada, has welcomed Gloria Rubio as its U.S. North East sales manager. Rubio brings 20 years of sales and product knowledge experience having previously been in the vertical/horizontal blind industry.
Rubio’s focus will be in developing and expanding this territory and servicing customers’ needs. She is fluent in English and Spanish and is a welcome addition to the Plastibec sales team, the company states.
