D&WC: Golden Champion might be a new name for many in this industry. Tell us about your company.
Ann Wang: Golden Champion Industrial Ltd. has been a manufacturer for the window coverings industry since 1972. During the ’70s and ’80s all of our production facilities were located in Taiwan, but in 1990 we opened our first factory in Mainland China.
Today most of our products are produced at our two factories in China while our head office is still located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. There, in our head office in Taiwan, we have 35 staff members while our factories in China employ 1,500 staff members.
Golden Cool Industrial Ltd., our founding factory in China, was established in 1990. The primary products manufactured at these facilities are roller shades and roller shade accessories.
Our other factory, Golden Bright Industrial Ltd., underwent a major expansion beginning in 2001 with the introduction of our second and largest factory site and manufacturing facilities.
These new facilities are the sites for manufacturing our complete lines of pleated, Roman, mini-, and cellular/honeycomb shades and blinds along with decorative drapery hardware. Within the grounds, there also are research, development and testing facilities for all new window covering products, as well as complete product showrooms.
And just made ready in January of this year, our third facility is brand new and will service custom products to our build-to-order customers.
D&WC: Who are your customers? Do you work through distributors or sell direct to the retailer? What parts of the country do you service?
Wang: Our customers are distributors and fabricators of window coverings products. We serve the United States nationwide.
D&WC: What best describes your niche in the marketplace?
Wang: Golden Champion supplies the window coverings industry with innovative, quality products and great customer service.
D&WC: What are some of the key factors involved in your growth and success?
Wang: Our product offering and ability to deliver on time and to our customers’ expectations are our biggest keys to our success.
D&WC: What are your strengths in the marketplace?
Wang: It’s our cross marketing of products. We can offer many products with the same type of look. Our ability to deliver on time with our J-I-T (just-in-time) service and to our customers’ expectations here in the United States also are strengths we bring to the marketplace.
D&WC: Is your business computerized? Do you have a company Web site, and how is it used to communicate with customers?
Wang: Yes, we are computerized. Our Web site is www.goldenchampionusa.com. All of our customers can e-mail us or send any inquiries though our Web site.
D&WC: Do you educate your customers? Present seminars?
Wang: Yes, education is a great sales tool for us. We offer special seminars and will meet with a customer’s sales team to teach and explain why our products are the best in the industry.
We also supply a variety of catalogs and training videos to help promote all our products. Our features and benefits catalogs will always help our customer base sell our products.
D&WC: What trends and cycles do you see occurring in the industry? How is your business addressing them?
Wang: We see an increase in products that focus on more of a natural content. We feel that we can incorporate all trends for all product program offerings. All products can be quickly updated to catch the top of any trend. Time to market delivery is another key to our success.
D&WC: Where do you see the company five years from now? Are there additional areas within the industry that you would like to get involved in?
Wang: We are always looking for true growth through supporting our customers with innovative products that match industry trends. We want to be a total source supplier for all window coverings products.
D&WC: What advice would you give to other window coverings professionals?
Wang: Mean what you say and deliver what you mean . . . on time.
