Your mother probably told you, “Nobody likes a showoff!” While we would never argue with your mother, truth be told, we kind of like showoffs—in fact, we’re encouraging window coverings professionals to show off more!
One of the best ways to learn anything about any business to look at what it does best. One of the best ways to help others is to show them how you do it—this industry is all about helping others! Draperies & Window Coverings offers a platform to do both and have some fun doing it, too!
Here are two ways to show off:
• Show us your showroom! Hey, what’s a showroom for if not to show off your products, your ideas, your talent?
There are many reasons why window coverings dealers would want or need a showroom. Just ask our cover story retailer, Steve Roellchen (see page 20). His One Stop Decorating in Kansas City has four showrooms! The showroom experience is the best way for customers to see, touch and compare products, Roellchen says. What’s more: he has found average sales increase for each customer that comes into the showroom.
What makes a great showroom—is it the products displayed? The displays themselves? The store layout? Yes, yes, yes—and more. But don’t tell us, show us! What is it about your showroom that delights customers, that makes them stop, look, touch, think, dream? Send in one to three photos highlighting your showroom’s layout. We’ll gather the photos and publish the best among them in an issue later this year.
• Show us your van! Whether you have a showroom or not, you’re sure to have a van to take samples when visiting clients in their homes and to deliver finished products. That rolling billboard for your business could be one of your most important marketing investments: it’s seen all over town (even better, in a customer’s driveway!) and offers ample space to promote your company, phone number, Web site, e-mail address and photos. The time you spend stuck in traffic actually could be valuable!
What does your van say about your company? What graphics capture the attention of passers-by? If you’re feeling really gutsy, open the doors and show off how neatly organized your van is on the inside! We’ll gather these photos, too, and feature the best in an upcoming issue.
Get those cameras clicking and send in your best shots! High-quality, high-resolutions photos can be e-mailed directly to me or sent on disc (see address at upper right on this page).
What better way to learn, what better way to share and make your mother proud?
