Watson Promoted to Director of Brand Management for Hunter Douglas Business Unit
Michele Watson has been promoted to director of brand management for the Hunter Douglas Metal & Alternative Wood Blind Business Unit, based in the company’s Upper Saddle River, NJ, office. The promotion is effectively immediately.
Watson joined Hunter Douglas in April 2002 as the assistant product manager for the unit and was promoted to product manager and brand manager in 2004.
Among her accomplishments, Watson directed the development of the EverWood® Collection. She also led the reintroduction of Modern Precious Metals® aluminum blinds in 2006, including the launch of the patent-pending Reveal™ with MagnaView™, which was named Product of the Year for 2007 by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA).
Schurz Joins Rowley as Industry Consultant, Market Expert
Rowley Co., Gastonia, NC, announced in November that Susan Schurz has joined the company as an industry consultant and expert to the window coverings and home fashion market.
Schurz will assist in business development and marketing for Rowley.
Schurz is the owner of Tavern Hill, a professional custom drapery workroom, established in 1988, and an instructor for the Custom Home Furnishings Academy in Charlotte, NC. She is a nationally respected professional and educator, as well as publisher of educational videos and “Sketches for Home Décor,” a book of original window treatment designs.
Kaufman Named President-elect ASID-IL Chapter
Interior designer Joan Kaufman, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers’ Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL), has been elected president-elect of the ASID-IL Chapter for the 2008-09 fiscal year, which began October 1, 2008. She will serve as president of the association for the fiscal year of 2009-10.
The ASID-IL Chapter is a non-profit professional association representing the interests of more than 1,600 Illinois interior designers, students and design industry partner members who practice a variety of design specialties. Its vision is to be the voice of design in Illinois and to provide information through quality, timely communications; to educate its members and clients; and to expand and to support market expansion.
Kaufman is president of Interior Planning and Design, Inc., Naperville, IL, a full-service interior design firm she founded in 1990. The firm focuses on the creation of the total environment through space planning, interior design, lighting, color, finishes furniture and art.
In Memoriam: Charles J. Tappe
Charles J. “Chuck” Tappe, owner of Acme Window Shade Co., Pittsburgh, PA, died October 23, 2008.
Tappe began working at Acme Shade in 1946 after being discharged from the Army Air Corps and assumed ownership of the company in 1983. Through hard work and dedication, he built Acme Shade into one of the premier window treatments stores in the Pittsburgh area.
Acme Window Shade Co. will continue to operate through the efforts of Tappe’s two sons who have worked with him for the past 25 years.
