Bigger, greener, stronger and smarter than any of its predecessors, the NextGen First to the Future national demonstration Home in Las Vegas wouldn’t be complete without motorized custom window fashions from Hunter Douglas.
The five windows and French doors of the Mediterranean-style home’s spacious master bedroom are dressed in the company’s soft, sheer Silhouette® window shadings. Inherently energy efficient, this proprietary product features rotating fabric vanes suspended between sheer front and back facings. The sheer panels soften and diffuse the light, while the fabric vanes provide privacy and light control. For the ultimate in energy efficiency and convenience, they are motorized and seamlessly integrated into the Creston home automation system, one of many automation systems with which Hunter Douglas products can be used.
“We are honored that our advanced motorized Silhouette® window shadings were selected for this green, sustainable home built with the U.S. Department of Energy and boasting efficiency levels that are 95 percent greater than the standard home of today. The home illustrates the energy savings benefits of window fashions, especially when they are motorized and integrated into the low-voltage lighting and other control systems of a home,” said Paul Kenline, Hunter Douglas Motorization Brand Manager.
The Silhouette shadings were motorized with the premier line of motor controls from Electronic Solutions, Inc. (ESI), a Hunter Douglas company and the leading producer of intelligent controls for motorized products. They can be preset to open and close at specific times to make the most of the natural heating and lighting power of the sun, thus saving on electricity and heating bills. The fabric vanes also are ideal for moderating light levels and allowing homeowners to reflect the light onto the walls and ceilings and help it penetrate deeper into the room. With its fabric layers, Silhouette shadings also are inherently insulating, protecting against winter cold and summer heat.
Silhouette shadings also are unique in that they protect against up to 88 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays when the vanes are open, thanks to the sheer fabric facings, while still permitting light and a view, something traditional products can’t do. With the vanes closed, they offer up to 99 percent UV-ray protection.
The shadings are showcased in the largest vane size available—the Quartette™ four-inch—for the widest spacing between the fabric vanes and the most expansive view-through. The fabric specified was from the newly refreshed Silhouette Matisse™ Collection of Colored Vanes and Sheers, the first-ever fabric with colored sheer facings as well as colored vanes for a cascade of rich color. The color selected is the soft brown Wooden Easel.
“Hunter Douglas has the largest and most diverse offering of upscale motorized custom window covering solutions on the market. These products provide optimal style, unmatched functionality and superb quality and are widely available throughout the U.S,” concluded Kenline.
