When Roger and Susanne Hoy moved into their Eden Prairie, MN, home, they knew it was their dream home—once they could give it their personal touch. The Hoys loved the home’s existing structure and atmosphere, but wanted to update the wall colors, furniture and flooring along with adding quality custom window treatments.
The windows were already treated with window shadings and honeycomb shades (Hunter Douglas Silhouette® and Duette® supplied by Warren Steven Window Fashions). Susanne Hoy thought these were sufficient for the couple’s busy lifestyle with their three children, but Roger Hoy pushed for draperies as the final touch.
“Draperies finish off each room and make everything look complete,” Roger explained. Thirty years of experience in the hotel business gave him exposure to commercial design, helping him realize the elements he wanted to bring into their home. “Identifying the right designer and capable custom workroom are the key ingredients in making this happen,” he said.
With the help of their designer, Amanda Dean, Ethan Allen, Edina, MN, and the custom drapery workroom team at Warren Steven Window Fashions, it all came together.
Rooms for Him and Her
The Hoys decided to add custom window treatments in nearly every room of their home. They wanted to showcase the homes architecture and enhance the beautiful wooded view outside—without covering it. Dean agreed.
“I believe window treatments are an important aspect of a room design and a lot of designers don’t always consider them,” said Dean. “Roger knew he wanted draperies. I made suggestions for accenting the windows and they selected the fabrics together.”
The couple was very involved in the entire selection process, which can be unusual. “They both really cared about the colors and fabric selections, so it was fun for us to all work together and choose what would best complement their rooms,” Dean said.
Dean coordinated the draperies throughout the Hoy’s home without seeming monotonous. Using swag treatments in different variations, fabrics and colors achieved a cohesive effect.
The team at Warren Steven Window Fashions’ helped keep the 20-treatment, six-month project organized from start to finish; whether it involved the accurate measure of each window or dressing each graceful swag at the install. “It was really easy,” Dean said.
Communication between the client, designer and the drapery workroom is very important. Messages regarding the designer and clients’ ideas were brought to Warren Steven’s workroom and the installation team assuring each finished treatment was impeccable.
All parties were all present for the install, which ensures everyone is completely satisfied with the final project. A few on-site adjustments were made to accommodate the designer’s plan and the clients’ taste. Expert installers are able to make any last minute tweaks and guarantee a smooth installation.
The installation team diligently scheduled four installation appointments over the six-month timeframe to hang each treatment flawlessly. Despite the difficult bay and curved windows, each treatment turned out beautifully thanks to the measure, installation and design skills involved.
“Warren Steven Window Fashions and Amanda made the process seem easy, straightforward and on time. A real class team,” said Roger.
Dream Come True
Through the course of the six-month project the staff at Warren Steven, Dean and the Hoys developed a close working relationship. “We sure appreciated the wonderful work on our draperies from all of the great people at Warren Steven,” Roger said.
The Hoys now have their dream home. “The draperies throughout the house give each room an extra splash of color and help balance a formal look with our casual style,” Susanne says. “It fits our lifestyle and it was such a fun experience.”
