If you’re looking for some good news in this economy this could be it! As we approach mid-year, www.DWConli-ne.com asked visitors to compare sales for the first half of 2008 to those of the same period last year. A resounding percentage of responses indicate business is up so far this year.
In fact, twice a many respondents say sales are up 10 percent or more so far than those reporting sales down 10 percent or more (see chart). A healthy percentage also report sales even with last year or up slightly, for a total 72/28 percent split in those saying sales are as good as or better this year than 2007.
The dark cloud surrounding this silver lining is that for those reporting that sales are down, they are down by five percent and more. There were no respondents saying sales were down just slightly (even to down five percent).
But here’s more good news: the industry mood seems upbeat. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, one enthusiastic respondent commented, “This is going to be a great year, I can tell already!”
Each month, DWConline asks a question, tallies the responses and reports them here. Beginning July 1, we’ll ask the industry, “What is your average size sale (in dollars) of custom window treatments?” The responses and comments will be reported in the August issue of Draperies & Window Coverings.
