COMFORTEX’S MARUSAK HONORED AS EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
Tom Marusak, president of Comfortex Corp., Maplewood, NJ, has been
named Executive of the Year by The Capital District Business Review,
an Albany, NY-based publication of the American City Business Journal.
The award, the George M. Low Memorial Award, is named after its
Marusak was chosen by his peers, members of The Capital District
Business Review advisory board who represent a variety of businesses
in the greater Capital District of New York. He was one of six award
winners honored at the Review’s 20th Annual Achievement Awards
held in November.
DORN APPOINTS WATSON TO DIRECT NEW BUSINESS
Dorn Color, Inc., Cleveland, OH, has appointed James W. Watson director
of new business development for the window coverings industry. His
focus will be on identifying sampling and merchandising opportunities
within the industry, then targeting those manufacturers that fit
Dorn Color’s core sampling and merchandising capabilities.
Watson brings with him a wealth of experience in the window coverings
industry over the past 25 years, both domestic and international.
Before joining Dorn, he served as president of Eclipse Blind Systems,
Inc., Ravenna, OH. Plus, from an international perspective, he was
franchise director for Apollo Window Blinds Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland.
AVENO WELCOMES NEW SALES MANAGER, QUALITY
ASSURANCE AND SAFETY MANAGER
Aveno Window Fashions, Inc., Atlanta, GA, has appointed a new sales
manager and a quality assurance and safety manager.
Dan Naas has been named to the position of sales manager. Prior
to joining Aveno, he held sales and management positions at both
Del Mar, Inc. and Comfortex Window Fashions, Inc.
Joseph A. Pinon Jr. has been appointed to the position of quality
assurance and safety manager. A native of Madrid, Spain, Pinon was
raised and educated in the United States. Prior to joining Aveno
Window Fashions, Inc., Pinon’s career encompassed many managerial
and supervisory roles in the health care and manufacturing sectors.
He has worked with multiple Fortune 500 companies in the south Florida
area in the past.
Pinon will direct Aveno’s Quality Assurance and Safety programs,
launched in 2002, and will continue overseeing the company-wide
expansion of these programs through 2003 and beyond.
GCABC NAMES TUCKER DIRECTOR OF SALES
Gulf Coast American Blind Corp. (GCABC), Naples, FL, an independent
full-line Hunter Douglas fabricator, announces the promotion of
Paula Tucker to director of sales. All of the company’s territory
managers will report directly to Tucker.
“Paula has continued to elevate the professional sales level
at GCABC through her experience, skills, training and relentless
work effort. Her leadership as steward of the sales team has been
outstanding and recognized by all including our dealer network,”

OXFORD HOUSE APPOINTS LYNN TO NATIONAL
SALES, MARKETING POST
Oxford House, Fowler, IN, announces the appointment of Angela E.
Lynn as national sales and marketing manager. She brings more than
17 years experience in the window coverings industry, both from
sales and marketing, to her new post.
Lynn will focus on the marketing strategies, national account sales
and be instrumental in regional new account sales.
HUNTER DOUGLAS ADDS TWO EDUCATIONAL
The Hunter Douglas Customer Education and Development Group, Broomfield,
CO, has added two new regional program managers—both newly
Wendy Kayser has joined as a regional program manager for the western
United States and Bill Bleil has joined as a regional program manager
for the eastern United States. The two will communicate, implement
and measure the many training and marketing programs available to
Hunter Douglas fabricators.
Kayser previously worked for Rubbermaid, Fenton, MO, where she was
senior product manager for wire and fashion organization. Prior
to that she worked for Springs Window Fashions, Middleton, WI.
Bleil brings 18 years of sales and sales management experience in
the high-tech marketplace to his new post. Previously he worked
for Amp, Inc., Harrisburg, PA; NMB Technologies, Chatsworth, CA;
and Switching Systems International, Anaheim, CA, where he received
recognition many times as top sales and salesperson of the year.
ITA APPOINTS HAYES REGIONAL MANAGER
ITA, Inc., St. Augustine, FL, has appointed M. Shane Hayes its central
regional sales manager with a territory that stretches from the
Gulf of Mexico to Canada. His primary goals will be to open new
sales channels and strengthen existing relationships with fabricators
and distributors of window coverings throughout the region.
Hayes brings to his new position more than 18 years of experience
in sales and management with several companies in the window fashions
Hayes says his strategy will be to build deeper relationships with
fabricators of multiple product lines in order to sell a broader
spectrum of ITA products.
WEINKAM NAMED NEW INDA PRESIDENT
Joseph Weinkam, Jr., a former Johnson & Johnson executive with
more than three decades of management experience within the nonwovens,
textile and related fields, has been named president of INDA, Association
of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, Cary, NC.
Weinkam replaces Ted Wirtz, who announced his retirement late last
year after seven years as president of the association. Weinkam
assumed the position at the end of January.
Weinkam joins INDA from Wyndhurst Associates, a Baltimore, MD-based
management consulting firm, where he specialized in crisis intervention,
turnaround planning, financial restructuring and strategic planning.
