Friends, I take special pleasure in writing this foreword to the annual safety section of Draperies & Window Coverings because it provides an opportunity to reflect on our industry's resolve and leadership in pursuing product safety and on the impact of these efforts in generating exceptional engineering and design innovations. As an industry, we have had an ongoing commitment to improve the safety of window coverings from finding solutions to the looped pull-cord issues of the mid-1990s, to recent efforts resolving inner-cord safety concerns. That same commitment to product safety characterizes the vigor of our national cord-safety awareness and education campaign today and bolsters the continuing development of innovative cordless and cord-smart products. I am confident that we can look forward to new, innovative and stylish window coverings in the future that incorporate improved safety features and devices.
