HUNTER DOUGLAS WINS CYBER SQUATTING SUIT

The United States District Court for the District of Colorado has ruled in favor of Hunter Douglas Inc., Upper Saddle River, NJ, in a suit alleging Best Domains violated the Anticybersquatting Act by registering three domain names with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that contained the Hunter Douglas name. Hunter Douglas owns several federal trademark registrations in that name.

In addition to violating the Anticybersquatting Act, Hunter Douglas alleged the defendant intentionally linked the subject domain names to “highly controversial Web sites that do not refer to, sell or have anything to do with Hunter Douglas products and/or services,” according to a company statement. Hunter Douglas further claimed the defendant sought money from Hunter Douglas in order to transfer ownership of the domains.

In the ruling announced in late July on the suit filed in March, the court found in favor of Hunter Douglas and awarded the maximum statutory damages allowable per domain name ($100,000 each), awarded a permanent injunction that prevents the defendant from using any Hunter Douglas trademarks and awarded Hunter Douglas its fees and costs.

SCOTTSDALE SHUTTERS JOINS SOLATECH PARTNERSHIP ALLIANCE

Solatech, LLC (www.solatech.com), High Point, NC, and Scottsdale Shutters, Inc., Scottsdale, AZ, have announced a strategic alliance to work together to provide Scottdale’s product information to the retail window coverings industry.

Initially, Scottsdale Shutters’ product information will be provided through the Solatech retail window covering software products, thus allowing Scottsdale’s products to be ordered directly by users of the software. The partnership will allow Scottsdale Shutters’ customers to use computerized pricing, apply discounts and generate quotes, order confirmations, invoices, purchase orders and open order reports, as well as generate sales reports.

Under the agreement, Solatech will market, develop and support Scottsdale Shutters’ product line to the Solatech customer base throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Solatech also will assist and support Scottsdale Shutters’ customers using the Solatech software.

Scottsdale Shutters, a top manufacturer of hardwood shutters since 1989, joins other industry suppliers such as Kensington Window Expressions, Comfortex and Aveno Window Fashions in the Solatech Partnership Alliance.

SUPERIOR ROMAN SHADES TO DISTRIBUTE ELERO MOTORS

California-based Superior Roman Shades™ has selected the Elero motors as its tubular motorized lifting system for its Roman shades. In addition to using the motors on its shades, the company says it also will distribute the motors to the trade.

After reviewing the major motorization systems available, Superior says it determined that Elero’s design, reliability and lifting capacity best complements its product.

“Motorization is becoming more popular because it lifts shades more uniformly, is safer and aesthetically more appealing than hanging cords. Also, consumers with numerous windows in a room or with high windows want the convenience of motorized lift systems,” says Marco Bonilla, division manager.
