CUSTOM ALL THE WAY

I read the recent article by Cheryl Strickland about arch windows (see “Treating Arch Top Window,” D&WC, November 2002, page 84). There was no mention of the way I usually treat arch windows.

Since arches are such a great architectural feature in many homes, we enhance them by building an arch frame and mounting swags and cascades on them. Sometimes a shirred-on valance is attached to the frame giving the illusion of a shaped valance. Each frame is custom made for the window. Sometimes we build an arch frame to go over a straight window, to create the look of arch windows and add height.

Also, I have not seen any articles about custom headboards. We make at least one a week, custom designed for the customer. We even made one for a customer in the shape of an “M.” Most of these have shirred rolls and trim. The last one I made was a total height of 102 inches from floor to top.

We also make custom bed frames to go with the headboards. They support the headboards better than a standard frame and can be made to any height the client wants. Many people like these if they want a high bed. They are also much stronger than the regular frames. They are constructed of wood and stained or painted to match the colors in the room.

DRAPERIES AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Just to let you know that we enjoyed the online information regarding Monique’s Draperies and their success, especially the portion of your article entitled, “Ahead of the Industry”. Hopefully, this information will be included in a future print issue of the magazine.
