From Traditional to Irresistible
Janaj International/Trimland USA offers high-quality trimmings direct from its own mill.

D&WC: Please give a detailed description of your company and its history.

Hilda Apikoglu, President: Janaj International/Trimland USA started in 1998 from my basement. After one year, the business moved to a 10,000-square-foot facility in Farmingdale, NY. The business was growing rapidly and after four years Janaj relocated to a 47,000-square-foot facility in Deer Park, NY. The business began with two employees and now employs 10.

Trimland imports all of its products from its own mill in Istanbul, Turkey. We also maintain a showroom at Heimtextil.

Our products include medium- and high-end trimmings, tiebacks, tassels, braids, fringes, curtain tapes and narrow fabrics or ribbons in several collections. We also can accept custom orders. Our Customer Service personnel can handle inquiries for information and possibilities.

D&WC: Is your business computerized? Do you have a company Web site, and how is it used to communicate with customers?

Apikoglu: The business is computerized. We have accounting software with which purchase orders, sales orders, invoicing, inventory, etc. are maintained and utilized. We also have in-house bar coding.

Our company Web site address is www.trim land.com. Customers are able to visit us on the Web and view a complete company background, and all of our collections with each style and color available. The site also includes useful information in areas such as trim care and cleaning, with a tips and ideas section to be available soon.

From our Web site distributors may request a digital collection catalog. The site also includes updated trade show information.

Every employee has his or her own e-mail address and is able to communicate with customers, as well as the mill in Turkey.

D&WC: Who are your customers? What parts of the country do you service?

Apikoglu: We supply our trims to manufacturers, jobbers, wholesalers, workrooms and large retail chains all over North America.

D&WC: What are some of the key factors involved in your growth and success?

Apikoglu: Not only is the product we carry and distribute of superior quality, but also the employees we hire are extraordinary. They all work hard to achieve customer satisfaction and function together as a family.

D&WC: What distinguishes you from the competition?

Apikoglu: What makes our products extremely competitive is the fact that all orders received by 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time are shipped that same day. Also, all products go through three extensive quality control tests before leaving our facility.

D&WC: Do you work through distributors or sell direct to the retailer?

Apikoglu: We do not directly sell to retailers; we work through distributors all across the United States.
