Window Covering
Safety Council

Dear Friends,

As the new president of the Window Covering Safety Council, it is indeed a great privilege to be addressing readers of the 2002 Safety Section of Draperies & Window Coverings magazine.

This year, we are pleased to announce that the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) has published a revised American National Standard for the safety of corded window covering products (ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2002), prepared in accordance with the methods of the American National Standards Institute.

We applaud the industry’s effort to address safety issues in a unified fashion, as it continues to develop new products to meet customer demands. We urge manufacturers to obtain a copy, in order to ensure compliance with the revisions.

The Window Covering Safety Council also has continued in its mission to educate the public on window cord safety, publishing our message with the cooperation of the local news media and safety advocates, distributing safety brochures and offering free window cord repair kits to the public through our toll-free hotline.

I always look forward to watching the innovation that continues to take place in our industry. We’re in an era of renewed consumer interest in the home and everything that matters most in it, both to ourselves and to our loved ones. I feel that as professionals, it is imperative that we never lose sight of just how important those needs are.

Heading into the year 2003, may we all be safe and prosper as we continue to pursue that American dream.

Sincerely,

Michael Cienian
President
