WINDOW COVERING SAFETY COUNCIL NAMES NEW PRESIDENT

The Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) has named Michael A. Cienian as its new president. Cienian is vice president of quality/engineering for Springs Window Fashions, Middleton, WI.

“Consumer safety is such an important issue in the manufacture of any product. That’s why I am so eager to take on this leadership role with an industry organization that is committed to informing the public about window-cord safety,” said Cienian. “While WCSC has reached many people with its message since its inception in 1994, we intend to continue in our efforts.”

An active member of the American Society for Quality, Cienian started his career in manufacturing engineering at John Deere, later taking on quality and engineering management for Beloit Corp. Before joining Springs Window Fashions in 1999, he was vice president of operations for Nissan Forklift North America.

WCSC is a coalition of major U.S. manufacturers, importers and retailers of window coverings. Since its founding in 1994, it has remained steadfast in its mission to educate Americans about potential window cord hazards to children, provide consumers with free cord-safety devices and information, and promote the industry’s continuing commitment to product quality and safety (see “Safety First,” page 51). WCSC’s headquarters is in New York, NY. Its 24-hour, toll-free telephone hotline is (800) 506-4636
