WCMA PRODUCT INNOVATION AWARDS CALL FOR ENTRIES

The entry deadline for the Window Covering Manufacturers Association’s (WCMA) Product Innovation Awards is Friday, January 31, 2003. The Awards program will be held on April 2, 2003, in conjunction with the International Window Coverings Expo in Baltimore, MD. (See D&WC, April 2002, page 20 and May 2002, page 24.) Companies will be honored for their design creativity, technical advancement and overall innovation in the products and services of the window coverings industry during the past year.

Entries will be judged in the following product categories: alternative shading products, cellular shades, curtains and draperies, horizontal blinds, motorization, pleated and roller shades, shutters, specialty applications, verticals, wood blinds/shadings (wood, faux wood) and merchandising. In each product category, awards will be presented for best new technical innovation, best new style concept, most innovative overall design and best safety innovation.

A new category, motorization, has been added this year to reflect the growth of and consumer interest in this area. There are also three overall categories: Product of the Year, Safety Innovation of the Year and Rising Star.

The Product Innovation Awards Program is open to all manufacturers and suppliers of window covering products in the United States and Canada.

OXFORD HOUSE COMPLETES MOVE TO NEW FACILITY

Oxford House, Inc. has recently completed a move into a new facility located at 606 W. State Rd. 18, Fowler, IN. The company can be reached at (800) 533-9464; fax: (765) 884-3274. The company had been in its previous location for 14 years.

The 40,000-square-foot building has seven loading docks—two of which will house semi-tractors and trailers completely indoors. The new facility also means the company can house all of its hard product lines in one building on one floor and have its office at the same location. The result will be better customer service, inventory management, production quality and shipping times, the company says.

“The move was a must. Our growth with the help of the Kensington line and Sheer Radiance demanded more space. We feel fortunate that we were able to accomplish everything so close to home without any major interruptions in customer service or production,” said Polet Senesac, president.

KENSINGTON UNVEILS CONSUMER WEB SITE

Kensington Window Expressions™, Suwanee, GA, has unveiled a new Web site exclusively for consumers: www.kensingtonblinds.com.

“The new, comprehensive Web site was launched as an extension of Kensington’s continued commitment to support our network of fabricators and authorized dealers,” said Doug Barr, business unit manager. “The site provides consumers with the research tools necessary to learn about the vast array of Kensington products on the market and where to find them.”

The site includes a “Products” section that acts as a virtual showroom and displays a carousel of room-setting photography. A convenient “Dealer Locator” page allows consumers to easily locate authorized Kensington dealers in their area. A “Contact Us” section provides consumers with a way to obtain additional product information from a company representative or authorized dealer.

VISION 2003 LINES UP SEMINAR SPEAKERS

Vision 2003, the program of seminars held at Coverings 2003, to be held March 24 to 27, 2003, at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL, will feature a daily program of educational workshops that will include three of America’s most prominent design professionals as part of the exposition’s Designer Luncheon Series.

Chris Madden, host of the HGTV program “Interiors by Design” and the author of numerous books on design, will speak on today’s design and decorating trends.

Vicente Wolf, head of the New York-based design firm Vicente Wolf and one of the most influential designers in the United States, will give his presentation on March 25.

Leatrice Eiseman, consultant to Pantone Inc. and head of the Eiseman Center for Color Information, will pose the question, “Color Trends—How Will They Change?”

The Chairman of Coverings 2003, Rick Church, said, “We are extremely pleased with the high caliber of the keynote speakers scheduled to appear at this year’s show. Chris Madden, Vicente Wolf and Leatrice Eiseman are the kind of industry trend-setters who will capture the attention of our attendees and give additional value and prestige to our package of educational seminars and the Coverings trade show.”
