Great Escapes

Graphic design by Tonya Weiland

While people spend about one-third of their time sleeping, today's bedrooms are used for more than just physical rejuvenation. Modern-day bedrooms are havens in which we escape mentally-to read, watch television or just relax in solitude. The following photographs illustrate how design can beautifully serve aesthetic desires, as well as the functional requirements needed for these restful places.

This contemporary bedroom is achieved using the modern technology of döfix iron-on workroom products. The flat Roman shade can be fabricated using döfix Roman shade tape RF transparent/ iron-on or RFK/iron-on tape and then sewn. The stiffened valance with geometric appliqués, as well as the matching mobile, were constructed using döfix 2002 double-sided iron-on stiffener. To cover the skylight windows, the döfix cordless shade system was chosen to be operated from top-down or bottom-up.

Kirsch Design Trends® Cottage finials, rods and centerpiece in Oriental black finish creates this traditional treatment with contemporary style. The hardware design coordinates perfectly with the medallion motif of the window treatment fabric; its finish matches the accent pieces of the bed frame. For privacy, Kirsch Privacy Medallion mini-blinds in China white deliver complete satisfaction.

Stay in bed a little longer with the ease of Duette® PowerRise® shades from Hunter Douglas and available through Empire Window Fashions. Duette PowerRise allows the ease of remote operation from the convenience of the bed or anywhere in the room. Powered by ordinary batteries, these shades perfectly complement this room of relaxation.

In this eclectic bedroom, Luminette Privacy Sheers® from Hunter Douglas Window Fashions is an ideal choice from a practical as well as aesthetic standpoint. Luminette adds formality to the multi-paned French doors and helps tie the room together. The vertical lines of Luminette sheers add elegance to the window. The outside-mount covers the molding and adds a serene expanse of white to the room. In addition, Luminette's fabric vanes rotate for varing degrees of light control, and when closed, total privacy.

Charming and simple, this room provides a quiet, calming influence. A Symphony® double honeycomb cellular shade from Comfortex contributes to the peaceful feeling as it gently filters light to bathe the room in a soft, warm glow. The non-woven polyester fabric is both dust and stain resistant.
