Inspirational Boost

I have been meaning to write to you for some time to let you know how much I enjoyed the article about Dana Reed and her business. ("Seeking Something New" D&WC, February 1998.)

Having recently relocated and expanded my home-based business of 10 1/2 years to include decorator fabrics and a larger workroom, I could very much relate to Reed's story. We currently are struggling through those difficult years that she mentioned, and it was inspirational to read about her background and success. You did a wonderful job touching on all the aspects of starting and growing a business. I spoke to Dana and she was great! Very willing to share her story and offer help. We have yet to reach the critical turning point in our business, but the article was a much needed boost.

Hard Work Pays Off

Your March 1998 issue tickled our tassels and swayed our swags at Perry Winkle Interiors. All the articles were especially interesting and helpful to both our decorators and fabricators. Great issue, and featuring Cheryl Strickland on the cover is recognition overdue to one hardworking and creative woman!

Thanks for your hard work to give us so much terrific information.

Thirty Colorful Years

I read the Design Perspectives article in the June 1998 issue of D&WC with great interest ("Color and the New Millennium"), as I manage the media relations program for Color Marketing Group (CMG). It was a terrific article-very comprehensive.

One thing I would like to point out is that CMG has been around since 1962 and has been forecasting color since the early '70s, a good bit sooner than 1980, which was mentioned in the article. Just want to give credit where credit is due!

Editor's reply: By all means! CMG members spend a great deal of time and thought discussing and evaluating color trends and accurately and reliably forecasting consumer and contract color palettes. We regret the article seemed to ignore nearly a decade of CMG's work in this field and we apologize.

(Readers may link to an article in which columnist Karla Nielson continues exploring the effects of color on design and clients.)
