Judy Wilfong, Windows & Walls, Winchester, VA

As the owner and operator of Windows & Walls, which opened in 1984, Judy Wilfong bills herself as "Your Window Treatment Specialist." Wilfong graduated cum laude in 1974 from Lord Fairfax Community College with an associates degree in management. In 1985, she returned to school and earned a career studies certificate in interior decorating. She has since attended seminars and window treatment conventions to further her skills and experience. Wilfong sells all types of custom window treatments and specializes in providing any style the customer desires as long as it can be done. She also offers her clients wallpaper, trim, reupholstering, hardware, custom designs and installation. Being service-oriented, Windows & Walls studio is run out of Wilfong's home to allow her the freedom of meeting with customers in their own homes. Working one-on-one with customers in their homes provides Wilfong with a better sense of each customers' tastes and personality. Her experience has taken her from half-million dollar homes to custom recreational vehicles and trailers, with many repeat customers. Over time, Wilfong discovered that many of her clients do not want the hassle of removing their window treatments and reinstalling them for cleaning. Therefore, she offers on-site drapery cleaning as an added service to help ensure longer life to her designs as well as give her an opportunity to meet with the customer again. This eat-in kitchen was filled with a beautiful bay window and an unusually large triple window over the sink. To bring some life into the neutral-colored kitchen, Wilfong added a lush jewel-toned blue-green and rose print fabric. Hi-Tech Galaxy Roman shades were chosen for all the windows for a nice consistency. The large triple window was installed as three shades with one headrail for easier control when raising and lowering the shades. The coordinating border was placed near the ceiling to tie the room and treatments together.   A dining room with an adjoining kitchen was a challenging project for Wilfong. She selected a striped wallpaper above the chair rail in the dining area with a floral border as an accent. The same border was used at ceiling level in the kitchen. A fabric print coordinating with the border was used for the Hi-Tech Roman Galaxy shades with blackout insulated lining for added sun control. The same fabric was used in the kitchen for the straight padded board mounted over the sink. A deeply scalloped, gathered valance was hung beneath the board in a solid color to bring out the color in the print.   This bedroom uses several fabrics used together to create a sophisticated, yet cozy feeling. The walls were sponge painted in rose and a blue rose flower print was chosen for the main design. A smaller print is used to coordinate all the elements in the room, along with a solid rose for accent. A shaped valance in the larger print with a one-inch rose band and tieback draperies in the smaller print fabric add interest to the setting and match the custom bed coverings. A border at the ceiling surrounds the room for a final touch of elegance.
