15 Years and Counting

by Katie Sosnowchik

A rather significant milestone was celebrated this year without much fanfare and hoopla: Draperies & Window Coverings quietly celebrated its 15th anniversary. The magazine has certainly changed and adapted as the industry has evolved since 1981. In fact, a recent news release issued by a leading window coverings manufacturer talks about how the industry has changed from a manufacturing orientation to "more of a fashion business." We couldn't agree more -- it's exactly what you told us a year ago through an independent market research study. That's why in our efforts to focus on your needs we have, so far this year, delivered:

• 145 pages of product information

• 89 pages of design ideas

• 46 pages of design how-tos

• 25 pages of industry news

• 33 pages of business management strategies

• 22 pages of sales and marketing ideas

• 30 pages of workroom information

• 40 pages of professional profiles

• 26 pages of trade show information

Plus a 250-page directory listing all the suppliers in the industry -- the only industry buyer's guide, commonly referred to as the "bible" of the industry because it serves as the who's who on the supply side -- as well as the launch of DWCdesigNET, the industry's only on-line magazine, and one that provides a global reach for the window coverings industry on the World Wide Web.

And there's still two more months remaining this year. Whew!

While we can't tell you exactly what the next 15 years will bring (our crystal ball being out of order), we can tell you our commitment to this industry is stronger with each and every issue of the magazine we produce. Draperies & Window Coverings' leadership includes many individuals who have been with the magazine staff or in the industry for more than 10 years -- some of us have spent our entire careers here. Like you, we love the industry and couldn't imagine doing anything else! We know the history, the dynamics, the good and the bad of the current state of affairs.

When all is said and done, however, our 15th anniversary would not have been possible without the dedication of our 26,000 loyal readers. You have demonstrated an interest in this, your industry publication, through constant inquiries, comments and feedback. You have supported the manufacturers who, in turn, have supported the magazine.

So, in truth, it is the industry -- the readers and suppliers -- who should be congratulated on this 15-year achievement. Without you, our past would not have been possible . . . and our future inconceivable. We thank you and look forward to the next 15 years. Where do you think we'll be in 2011?
