Toys, Tools, Technology

When we bought computers, what may have started out as a home entertainment toy for children (as many of our initial contacts with new technology are) has evolved into a tool I am amazed we were able to get along without in the past. It reminds me of the dawn of fax machines, when it sounded like an extravagance to have even one of the devices. Now faxes crisscross our industry with the ease and frequency formerly accorded the telephone. Can you imagine not using a fax to communicate with your suppliers and customers?

The Internet and your computer now offer a glimpse of what this tool can provide for your information, communication and marketing needs. The problem for some of us is that there is only so much time, and with the programs, applications and opportunities available with the computer you might never get any work done. Besides, many of us have insisted for a long time that we could not learn how to use these things -- they are just too complicated. Well, I confess, in spite of myself, software people have made using their products so simple even those of us who never thought we could find computers important to our jobs now cannot figure out how we ever got along without them. Are you there yet? If not, I wouldn't bet against becoming a convert sometime in the near future.

The amazing capability of getting information now, not in a few days or weeks, is irresistible and worth the small price of time it will take to learn how easy it is to access the Internet.
