Here's to You and the Next 20 Years

This month we officially celebrate 20 years of publishing Draperies & Window Coverings magazine! It has been a full two decades since our first issue, which established the mission we strive to fulfill today: To provide news, information and advice to help the drapery and window coverings dealer operate more successfully.

To say a lot has happened over the past 20 years—in the window coverings industry and in the pages of D&WC—would be an enormous understatement. There were the heady, wild-and-wooly days of the 1980s; the tighter, consolidating 1990s; and the smarter, make-every-move-count days as we moved into the 21st century. We've been there all the way, and like the industry itself we've expanded, renewed, updated and refreshed.

In an attempt to encapsulate the past 20 years and to put some of what has happened into a larger context (while having a bit of fun, too), we offer the D&WC Galleria . We've selected industry news items and events culled from the very pages of D&WC and placed them within a timeline of national and world events. It's sure to get you reminiscing and perhaps chuckling. (Remember the first New Orleans show? How about "new" Coke?)

We follow that with a series of flashbacks from several industry leaders who took time to wander down Memory Lane and share with us what they were doing 20 years ago and how things have changed since then. What most of these flashbacks have in common are personal and industry-wide growth, development and an optimistic outlook for the future.

It has been said that time is the great instructor, and there is as much to knowing where the industry is headed as by learning where it has been. While we celebrate our publishing milestone, we also celebrate you—our readers, advertisers and the industry itself. You have made the industry what it is today, and helped us to reflect its success. We look forward to working together for the next 20 years!
