Metro-Style Manner

Cityscape windows and interior decors present a multitude of design challenges-most often in the shape of odd-sized windows and rooms. Additionally, while many times the view beyond the window is worth preserving, privacy and aesthetic factors still must be considered. The following photographs illustrate ways to help capture the design essence of city living in the '90s.

The dramatic architecture of this artist's studio is perfectly complemented with Soho[TM] shades from the Manhattan® Collection of Duette® honeycomb shades by Hunter Douglas Window Fashions. Soho's non-woven, semi-opaque fabrics have the elegant appearance of natural linen, shown here in a light ochre color. Half-inch offset pleat construction and unobstrusive headrail complete the sleek design.   Artist's Studio
ADO's City Casual Collection has two striped sheer designs which complement each other nicely. Here, sheer design 8136 provides a striking contrast to the elegant decor design 1036 used for the sophisticated puddled drapery and swag treatment, as well as the wall covering. The result: a dining room setting that is pretty in pink.   ADO's City Casual Collection

The city is just outside the windows in this living room setting, but with BTX motorized roller shades, privacy and lighting needs can be changed and glare reduced with a simple flip of a switch or push of a button. BTX motorized roller shades are flexible enough to accommodate any lifestyle, from the simple to the jet set.

When redesigning this duplex suite at the Swissotel in downtown Chicago, IL, overlooking Lake Michigan, interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud working with Phoenix Draperies International chose to treat the huge window expanses with center-draw sheers and draperies for a more home-like atmosphere. Second-story windows were motorized with SM Automatic direct drive motors for convenient use.
