WORKROOM OWNER HONORED WITH BEST 50 WOMEN IN BUSINESS IN PENNSYLVANIA AWARD

Sydney Schwartz Hardiman, owner, The Silken Scissor, Pittsburgh, PA, a retail and wholesale drapery workroom, was presented the 11th annual Pennsylvania Best 50 Women in Business award by Gov. Edward G. Rendell and PA Business Journals.

An independent panel of judges selected the top 50 candidates based on dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for women in business.

To qualify, a nominee must have been a female resident of Pennsylvania or be employed in the state and an owner, partner, president, CEO, board chair, be in a senior executive management level position, or a woman with significant authority in decision making in a business or company.

The Silken Scissor is a custom drapery workroom that strives to provide information, education and complete design and fabrication services for both retail and wholesale clients in Allegheny County and surrounding areas designing and manufacturing window treatments and other soft furnishings. In 2005 Schwartz was selected as a 40 under 40 honoree by Pittsburgh Magazine and Pump and is a 2003 and 2006 WBN woman of the year nominee.

COMFORTEX PROMOTES BAKER, APPOINTS BOGDANSKI

Comfortex Corp., Maplewood, NY, has promoted Laura Baker to Associate Product Manager.

Baker joined the company as marketing assistant in 2004. Since then she has taken on increasing responsibilities and has been a strong contributor in developing and launching several marketing programs.

Comfortex also announces the appointment of Michalle Bogdanski to Territory Sales Manager for Michigan. Prior to joining the company she had an 18-year career on the retail side of the window fashions business.

GCAF NAMES NEW TERRITORY MANAGERS

Gulf Coast American Fabrication (GCAF) Naples, FL, announces organizational changes within the corporation.

Dave Stealey is the Territory Manager for Collier County, FL, and will manage business development activities with the dealer base in this location. Stealey has been with GCAF for almost two years and was the Territory Manager for the Panhandle and lower Alabama area.

Elizabeth Tome is the Territory Manager for the Miami, FL, area. Her responsibilities will be to provide product and program knowledge along with developing the area.

SOMFY ADDS TO INTERIOR PRODUCTS DIVISION

Somfy Systems Inc., Cranbury, NJ, has added three people to its Interior Products Division.

Deirdre Brower is the new Marketing Coordinator. In her new role, Brower will be responsible for assisting in brand development and execution of the various marketing activities. Her previous experience in sales and market development with McMaster Carr and Engel Publishing will be helpful in her new endeavors.

Jennifer Foster has been named Marketing Assistant. She will be responsible for the sales lead qualifications process and delivering prospects to the appropriate sales organizations. Prior to joining Somfy Foster worked for a major insurance company bringing nine years experience in customer relations.

Randall Halpern has been added as Business Development Manager. In his new role, Halpern will be responsible for identifying and developing new sales opportunities within the window coverings industry. He brings more than 13 years of sales and sales management experience, most recently with AT&T, to his new post.

AVENO WELCOMES WOOD, YOUNGBLOOD

Aveno Window Fahions, Inc., Atlanta, GA, welcomes David Wood as Sales Manager. Wood’s background includes a variety of sales management experience in the telecommunications industry, as well as 12 years of experience in the window coverings field.

Dale Youngblood is the new Operations Manager. He brings more than 35 years of operations management knowledge and experience in the window coverings industry to his new post. He previously was involved in operations management for Levolor Home Fashions.

PIERSON RETIRES AFTER 26 YEARS IN INDUSTRY

Rich Pierson has announced his retirement after 26 years in the window coverings industry.

Pierson joined Allied Extrusions in 1980 and became part of Royal Window Coverings in 1986. With a keen sense of product development and business management, he was a driving force within the window coverings industry and at Royal Window Coverings. His most notable product achievements include numerous vertical product awards for decorative engraved louvers and the patented SFT Soft Touch louvers.

Royal Window Coverings wishes him much happiness during his retirement. He looks forward to spending more time with family and traveling across the United States.
