People Make the Industry

Draperies & Window Coverings has always been about people. The success of this industry has everything to do with the men and women who are in it—their ideas, their dedication, their vision, their heart. In some cases they have taken risks; in others, they have recognized an opportunity and seized it. In all cases they work hard, give of themselves and lead by example.

Our commitment to recognizing the people of this industry is prominently displayed every month right on our covers, and it has been this way for more than 25 years. This month, and in the months ahead, we take it a step or two further.

With this issue we inaugurate what will become an annual event: the induction of deserving persons into the D&WC Industry Hall of Fame. Our goal is to acknowledge the individuals who help shape the window coverings industry—those who have helped make it what it is today and those who continue setting the bar. And it’s high time this was done!

In a similar manner, we’d also like to pay tribute to one of our contributing writers, Kitty Stein, who with this issue retires her monthly Workroom Operations column. For more than a dozen years and through hundreds of thousands of words, Kitty has been our workroom mentor, reviewing products and equipment, advising on custom fabrication and taking special effort through education to see that workrooms strive for professionalism and the highest quality work—and get the credit and compensation they deserve. While we’ll miss Kitty’s regular contributions (and not to worry, our e-mail box is always open to Kitty anytime she’s so compelled) we’re happy to say we won’t abandon this important aspect of the industry. Beginning next month, Mary Ann Plumlee will be added to our masthead. “I am thrilled that D&WC will continue to offer regular workroom-focused articles in a column by Mary Ann Plumlee,” Kitty tells us. “Mary Ann has great experience and wisdom in all aspects of the drapery workroom arena.” It doesn’t end there! D&WC also is excited to begin featuring far-reaching monthly editorial contributions from Margie Nance and the Custom Home Furnishings Academy.

Draperies & Window Coverings is honored to associate with the many fine people who make custom window coverings a remarkable and exciting industry. As we end our yearlong celebration of 25 years of publishing, we can hardly wait to get started on the next 25!
