THE
LIST
CHECK AND DOUBLE-CHECK
Hiring Index reveals trends and issues with résumés.
Good help has always been hard to find, so keeping good employees
is all the more important for many retailers. One way to distinguish
potential problem employees is by doing a background check before
hiring.
ADP Screening and Selection Services, Fort Collins, CO, has released
its eighth annual Hiring Index, a yearly evaluation of hiring trends
and issues. This years study shows a 16 percent increase in
the number of background checks performed in 2004 (4.36 million
versus 3.76 million in 2003), the seventh consecutive year of increased
usage of pre-employment screening services. The number of checks
performed has more than tripled since ADP began compiling the Hiring
Index in 1997.
The Hiring Index specifically measures criminal records, employment
history, education and credential records, as well as driving, credit
and workers compensation claim records. The Index is based
on computerized calculations of background checks completed by ADP,
and highlights areas in which screening can help employers by showing
where data inconsistencies on a candidates résumé
can exist. ADPs Hiring Index is available by industry and
by employer size.
