THE BLIND MAKER HIRES NEW OPERATION MANAGER
The Blind Maker, Austin, TX, has hired Jeff Williams as Operations
Manager for its fabrication facility in Irving, TX. Williams will
lead The Blind Maker’s efforts in production efficiencies and
lean manufacturing and oversee all products built in Irving.
Williams comes to The Blind Maker with more than 15 years experience
managing manufacturing for a Fortune 500 company. For the past five
years he has been a Senior Industrial Engineer responsible for leading
the implementation of lean and cellular manufacturing in multiple
manufacturing plants, office and administrative environments for
a $2-billion-dollar corporation.
WINDOW FASHIONS, INC. ADDS WEEL
Window Fashions, Inc., Cheswick, PA, announces the addition of Judi
Weel to its sales staff. She comes with more than 20 years experience
and an extensive background in the industry. Weel worked for Bali
in Chicago, IL, from 1984 to 1990. She will service the northern
Illinois area.
IN MEMORIAN: DON LUMBATIS, TURNILS, INC, VP,
GENERAL MANAGER
Don Lumbatis, vice president and general manager of Turnils, Inc.,
Suwanee, GA, died at his home near Atlanta on Saturday, January
8. For the past year, he was also acting general manager of the
Hunter Douglas National Accounts Group, which includes the National
Accounts and Alta divisions. Turnils is a subsidiary of Hunter Douglas
Inc.
Lumbatis joined Hunter Douglas in 1990 and since 1994 was vice president
and general manager of Turnils. Prior to joining Hunter Douglas,
he worked at JCPenney for 17 years as president of the custom decorating
division.
“Don, a kind, warm and generous man of impeccable integrity,
was also an outstanding leader, respected and admired by all those
who knew and worked with him over the years,” said Hunter Douglas
President and CEO Marv Hopkins. “He left us much too early,
in the prime of his life, and he will be sorely missed. However,
his legacy, his accomplishments and the superb example of his life
and work will long endure for his family, for Hunter Douglas and
for the window covering industry.”
Lumbatis is survived by his wife, Jane, six children and three grandchildren,
as well as his mother, a sister and three brothers. At the family’s
request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hunter
Douglas Foundation, Inc., for the Tsunami Relief Effort at 2 Park
Way, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458, Attn: Betty Lou Smith.
IN MEMORIAM: RAYMOND PAUL FIX
Raymond Paul Fix, owner of Shutter Patterns, Phoenix, AZ, died November
26, 2004, after fighting cancer of the pancreas. He is survived
by his wife, a daughter, a grandson, his mother and brother.
Fix was a seasoned carpenter who owned Shutter Patterns for 10 years.
His greatest work, however, was spent in the countless hours sponsoring
others with alcohol and drug addictions to find the serenity in
their sobriety that he had.
