THE LIST

MOST POPULAR SHUTTER FINISHES
Readers indicate it’s painted vs. stained.

Based on the number of top-choice votes received in D&WC’s last Reader Survey on shutters (D&WC, November 2003, page 54), painted finishes remain the most popular.

Nearly 70 percent of last year’s respondents ranked a painted finish as the most popular
by a two-to-one margin over stained. More than half of the respondents described their businesses as Specialty Stores and 40 percent as Interior Designers. What’s more, the popularity of painted shutters seems to be a lasting one. It was ranked highest in popularity in our survey taken at the end of 2001 (see D&WC, April 2002,) and in our survey taken at the end of 1999 (see D&WC, April 2000).

Both painted and stained finishes seem to be increasing in popularity compared to other finishes. In 2001, painted and stained shutters received 49 and 15 percent of all top-choice rankings, respectively, and 69 and 23 percent in 2002.
